The shameless and almost criminal treatment of the low paid largely asian workforce exposes the truth about our inadequate employment laws and anti trade union laws.
When workers are the victim of such blatant attacks by a profiteering company which itself is being squeezed by BA cutting the cost of their contracts to maximise their profits it shows the whole system we live in is corrupt and we can only rely on ourselves and the support of other workers.

The anti trade union laws providing employer friendly timescales for official action need to be repealed and secondary action legalised.

Please lobby your MP's to condemn Gate Gourmet and for more worker friendly legislation. The Labour MP who condemned trade union activists as 'spineless' for not preventing supportive action should be asked which party he is in Old Tory or New Tory, sorry I mean New Labour.

He may feel differently if he is told he will have a pay cut and then get the sack by megaphone for resisting.

    Thanks

  • BNP Trials

At a meeting of Leeds Unite Against Fascism last night it was suggested that we should have a joint Rally and Demo with the TUC on November 2nd to coincide with the start of the Griffin and Collett trial.

I understand the idea of a national demonstration against the BNP in Leeds is supported by AMICUS and NASUWT. It is important that UNISON takes a lead role as the largest public sector union.

It is likely that the BNP will mobilise a large presence to act as a springboard for their Local Goverment Elections so it is very important that trade unions, anti fascist groups and community groups mobilise a larger peaceful demo in response. Yorkshire and Humberside is a key area for them and we need to launch a major demo to let them know they are not welcome.

Consider taking the day off work and coming into Leeds, discuss this at your Branches and support sending delegations with branch banners. Speak to local trades councils, community groups and anti Fascist groups and organise coaches.

It is early days in terms of organisation and I will circulate more information when it is available.

    Thanks
